GB

Tantric updated his port of VBA to VBA GX 2.0.6. VBA is VisualBoy Advance, a GB, GBC, and GBA emulator. It’s out for both the Wii and Gamecube.

Here’s what he’s fixed in this update:

  • Fixed the Shift key on the keyboard
  • Fixed the bug with Text Scrolling
  • Fixed the error that pops up saying there’s no games found when there are games
  • Changed the default prompt window selection to Cancel

Free

rolyataylor2 has released the second beta for his Freedom program for the Nintendo Wii. It’s a complete replacement for the standard Wii Home Menu so there’s no way to access the original menu unless you unistall Freedom completely. It looks good for now but rolyataylor is promising to release a more prettier version later on. It’s simple, easy, and organised so it’s worth checking out if you don’t like the default menu.

Quote from rolyataylor2:

What is Freedom and what can it do?

  • A Full System Menu Replacement
  • Wii Disc loading (any region)
  • GC Disc loading (any region)
  • Channel loading (any region)
  • WAD Importing
  • WAD Exporting (Channel backup)
  • Savefile exporting (no importing yet!)
  • Changeable GFX
  • Changeable button layout for Wiimote (Sideways/Normal)
  • Following Controllers are supported: GC/Wiimote/Classic-Controller (All ports)
  • Loading Covers for Games/Channels see cover section for an explantion how to use them
  • Changing most SYSCONF settings
  • USBloader support, press Right/Left to select a game
  • Tons of USBGecko debug output
  • More features are planned

Do you know what VNC is? You don’t?! Why not? It’s awesome!

Okay, what this program does is let you control your PC using your DS over WiFi. You can do this with the iPhone, PSP, and other computers. It can be pretty useful at times and fun to play around with. If this is something you’d be interested in, then go and download Remote Touch DS 0.2.2 :D

It’s been updated to fix some minor bugs and glitches. Enjoy!

A hacker by the name of kgsws has released the second version of his hack for Medal of Honor Hereos that works on Firmware 5.51. This is great news because we could potentially gain Flash access through this so we don’t have to use the ChickenHEN everytime we restart our PSP’s.

MHNS

German hacker named Miche2245 has been able to use a vulnerability in the Japanese version of Monster Hunter Freedom 2 and the English version of Need for Speed: Underground to access ChickHEN on firmware 5.50. Right now, the only download you can get is for the Japanese version of Monster Hunter Freedom 2… :(

Unless you live in Japan, you won’t be able to test this out.

PSP Skype

Well, the first obviously is the PC so there’s no reason to make a post about it, but what is interesting is that Japan’s RealWorld RealResearch polled the Sony PSP as being the second biggest platform to run Skype off of in Japan. Wow! That beats the iPhone, landlines, and other platforms like the Sony Mylo.

Do you like carrying around your XBox 360’s brick? Okay, it’s not actually a brick.. It’s bigger and heavier than a car. If you don’t, then I’ve got some good news for you! The new Jasper version of the XBox 360 will be coming out with a smaller Power Supply Unit!! (PSU for short.) It will still be 150Watts so it should work with all the other million models of the 360 out there.

How much of a difference are we talking about here? Check out the picture for a comparison.

By RVI

Appearantly RealView Innovations has announced that they will be releasing the V-Screen for the PSP which will make the objects seem to ‘pop out of the screen.’ I’ve seen technology like this used on computer cameras to make your pictures look 3D but they turn out aweful. It works by checking how dark or light parts of the picture is and then gives the image depth using that information. No word yet on how the V-Screen will work but it may use that or RVI software to space out objects further away than usual.

The creators claim that no other hardware will be needed. No word yet on price or which PSP systems it will be compatable with.

The V-Screen will be released this holiday season (2009) so we’ll probably be hearing more about it in the coming months.

iPhone 3GS

Looks like the iPhone Dev-Team released the newest version of Ultrasn0w to help fix all those bugs with the 3G/3GS.

Here’s the full changelog:

  • Unusual battery depletion is almost always caused by people choosing to “Restore from backup” instead of “Setup as new iPhone” when iTunes asks you.  This isn’t caused by either the jailbreak or the unlock, but it’s a common 3.0 snafu.  The fix is to just re-run the official 3.0 restore and choose “Setup as new” this time.  Your music and apps and all that will still be synced, but you’ll get rid of any conflicting wifi, bluetooth, or carrier settings.  Then just re-run redsn0w and install ultrasn0w.
  • Remember, ultrasn0w works with hacktivated phones too, but don’t outsmart redsn0w into thinking you don’t need hacktivation!  If you don’t plan on using an official sim, don’t activate via iTunes with such a sim.  Just keep your unofficial sim at all times and let redsn0w and ultrasn0w handle hacktivation :)
  • T-Mobile in the USA doesn’t use the 3G frequencies that the iPhones support, so turn off 3G in Settings->General->Network.  (Some T-Mobile territories gracefully hand down to Edge mode, but most do not).
  • Certain unofficial plans have limitations on whether you can make calls and use data at the same time. That’s not unlock-related.
  • Some people have installed previous versions of ultrasn0w using non-standard techniques.  While the ultrasn0w 0.9 update should have removed all previous versions of ultrasn0w, these users may have outsmarted our removal.  So make sure you don’t still see /usr/bin/ultrasn0w present if you’re at ultrasn0w 0.9 (which doesn’t have such a binary anymore).
  • If you don’t need or plan to update to ultrasn0w 0.9 from a previous version, you can avoid having that red badge over Cydia by removing repo666 as a Cydia source.  Don’t worry, you can always add it back later :)  If you follow us on twitter you’ll be advised of any new updates anyway.
