PSP News

After a quite succesful three seasons and two motion pictures, MTV's Jackass have decided to entertain us on our gaming consoles. With this title set to release September 25 for the PSP and PS2, you can expect that the usual suspects; Johnny Knoxville, Steve-O, Chris Pontius, and Wee Man, will be up to their old bag of nonsense and eager to take any painful stunts you can throw at them.

It is said to feature 35 stunts which will make up 7 virtual episodes so if you do the math thats 5 stunts per episode. A few of the many stunts will be San Fran Trash Can, where you'll be steering your favourite jackass character through traffic, around pedestrians and other obstacles as you go flying down the hills of San Francisco in a trash can. Suburban Catapult, where you'll be launching these crazy guys from a human slingshot into a nearby neighbourhood or construction site. If that's not enough for one day, you can try Golf Rally, where you'll be using a golf cart as your weapon of choice to terrorize the golf course and other scenery.

Sounds like fun to me. Heck, who doesn't love driving wrecklessly, demolishing golf courses, terrorizing neighbourhoods, and launching a buddy through the air. It's the dream of a teenager and even the child in some of us adults. To sum it up, it's a typical game to complete the Jackass series. Take a look at the full preview and trailor by clicking on the link…

  • File browser now filters files, showing only mp3 and m3u

choc_run
A french homebrew developer LeJournal has come to the homebrew scene with his first public release of his game: Chocobo Run. The game obviously features the known Chocobo from the Final Fantasy series to the Chocobo Racing and Chocobo Dungeon series. The main point of the game is to finish the course by pressing the buttons that appear up top. If you do not corrospond the buttons you press with the top (if you pressed the wrong button) then little Chocobo here will move back one step.
LeJournal has also made a catch to this game:
- Defeat the game in the shortest amount of time
- Do the least mistakes (3 mistakes at the max)
Although time isnt a factor for this build LeJournal sais it will surely be in his next version.

 Daedalus

Remember when supposedly strmnrmn said that his next version of Daedalus would most likely include the user downloading a copy of the N64 bios? Well it seems he has recently made a new post in his blog stating the information PSPUpdates was given is false. This is what he mentioned in his blog:

"I never emailed pspupdates.qj.net, so it looks like someone has been deliberately trying to mislead them… The information doesn't seem to be particularly malicious, but I didn't write it."

So there you go. R13 shouldn't need a N64 bios, unlike the fake that posted that piece of news. From now on strmnrmn also stated that "…Anything I have to say about Daedalus, I'll talk about here, on this blog." I believe this should be a good relief to some users of Daedalus.

Homebrew developer fard0che has just made his first contribution to the PSP brew scene with the release of PSPLive v1.01. This Lua coded program is sort of a virtual meeting place for homebrew gamers to meet up and play together. As it currently stands, the maximum capacity for this lobby is set at 20 but fard0che states that theoretically, the number can be unlimited. As of yet this program is not coded into any games but fard0che states if you are interested in coding this program into your games that you should contact him.

Can't wait to see what fard0che's next release has in store for us as this program seems promising for the future of mutiplayer homebrew.

NPH Gameboot Contest
Our friends at NPH decided to add even MORE to their prize list for their custom gameboot contest that they are holding. As it currently stands, the first 6 entries will receive a free wristband! … but NPH is going further than that and a new rule has been created as well. First off, the new rule is that, "there must be ten entries into the contest in order to claim prizes". So watch out! With free wristbands on the line and with the prizes being more generous, it won't take long for those 10 spots to fill up. You can enter 3 gameboots into the contest but only the first one is allowed to receive credit for a free wristband and only one is allowed to be in the top 3 so remember that! For inquiry about the contest or official rules, go here .

The new prizes are….
1st: On top of getting a free game and $10.00 in cash, the 1st place winner will also receive 2 faceplates! One will be custom painted and the other will be stock/ clear!!

2nd: Along with the free game from Can We Hack It?'s library of games, second place will receive a clear faceplate as well!!

3rd: $5.00

Homebrew developer Richard Sparrow has just released PSPCP v1.0. This nifty little program allows its users to flash custom files to their psp as well as clear up some extra space to allow more room for your flashing needs.

As visible in the picture, the PSP control panel program can:

Flash 01-12.bmp (Background)

Flash opening_plugin.rco (Start  up)

Flash gameboot.pmf (Game start up)

Flash system_plugin_bg.rco (XMB Waves)

Flash topmenu_plugin.rco (icons)

Replace jpn0.pgf with smaller file

Replace gb3s11518.bwfon with smaller file

The replace options allow you to clear up 2.5mb of flash0 space. However, by replacing gb3s11518.bwfon you will get half cut off text in your web browser.

I'm sure a lot of you who are skeptical about manually flashing files will find this program valuable. Happy brewing!

Please note, neither the members of pspbrew.com nor myself shall be held responsible for any mishaps during the use of this program.

Dark-Alex, the man responsible for bringing us such programs as SE and OE firmware, the 2.6 Downgrader, and HEN-D has announced that he will no longer be active on the PSP homebrew scene. As found on Dark-Alex's home page, he had written us a farewell message…

Bye, scene.

I've decided to cease OE development, and leave PSP scene.
The reasons are various.
One of them is the time it consumes, which i'm losing from other things.
The other is related to my security. I didn't like Sony menaces to PS3 hackers.
I think it is better to leave now rather than end paying the consequences.

Rather than let ourselves get all worked up about this news, we should instead thank Dark-Alex for all the hard work and time he had given to us.

Thank you Dark-Alex, and all the best in your future endeavours.

Johnnyrainbow has given us a new way to chat amongst each other. Written in LUA, his messenger supports: MSN, AIM, ICQ, Yahoo, and Gtalk in his application. It comes with quite fabulous skins and many features in which these many clients support, including the use of 'nicks. Johnny's chatter is patched and unpatched so if your using the patch be sure to have the WLAN switch on and a stable internet connection aswell! I'd reccomend a good PSP keyboard unless your a fast typer on the PSP, but this app has its own typing system, so not to worry!

Heres some features you may be interested in:

Simultaneous use of multiple accounts on differrent networks

Ridiculously skinnable interface

MP3 playback, remote support

Audio alerts

Chat logs (choice of enable or disable)

Three original skins (+AFKIM skin)

Uses the faster "danzeff" typing sytem (custom)
