\"2.01

Many of you might of known Fanjita as the "downgrader man" before. But thats then, and this is now. With Dark_Alex on the road, he has released some great programs, Devhook, Dax ISO Loader, The great Emulation Project, and most importantly, the wonderful Playstation Portable Firmware Downgraders to 1.5! 2.60-1.5,2.5-15, even 2.7 and 2.71-1.5, and heck, even 1.5-1.0!! You might think Fanjita\’s Noobz team is out of the picture, but not for long!! Fanjita\’s Noobz team has made asure their memories wont be memories for any longer.

They have just released our very first 2.0/2.01 EASY downgrader! happy for me since I recently went to check this out by updating to 2.0 and it worked successfuly wonderful!

If you really enjoy downgraders, then this is a great start for 2.0 firmwares. With the easy downgrader, it does infact use the TIFF Exploit (eloader v0.9.8 is required to run this) so whats the big deal? Another 2.0 downgrader? WOW who cares??? Don\’t be that way my friends, its for 2.01 firmware aswell! Hurrah!

Heres what the Noobz team had to say:

"A long time ago, when the GTA exploit first emerged, the first application we wrote for it was a v2.01 downgrader, similar to MPH\’s downgrader for v2.00. Unfortunately, the GTA exploit didn\’t offer sufficient access to the PSP\’s flash to allow the downgrader to work, so it was never released.

The new TIFF exploit allows us the necessary access, and so here it is, after some thorough testing on our own PSPs – an easy downgrader for firmware v2.00 and v2.01, via eLoader 0.9.8.

The advantage of this downgrader is that it doesn\’t require a firmware dump from a v1.5 PSP. It also contains a lot of extra safety checks and user friendliness enhancements, as well as a safer method for overwriting the INDEX.DAT file.

Many v2.0 and v2.01 users who wanted to downgrade may already have used the v2.6 or v2.71 Downdaters, so the usefulness of this downgrader is perhaps limited. But we\’re releasing it now so that anyone who might find it useful can use it.

Please ensure that you read the entire README.TXT file that is included with the downgrader package. Please also note that although this uses tried and tested techniques, and has been tested with 100% success on several PSPs, no downgrader is 100% safe, and so YOU USE THIS SOFTWARE AT YOUR OWN RISK."

The 2.0 2.0/2.01 easy downgrader does not come with the eloader, so you will have to get it for you\’re self. To do this simply go to noobz.eu (Fanjita\’s Website) to download it. As for the actual downgrader for the eloader, you can get it in the link below.

UFox\’s release of PSP Content Manager v1.2 has been updated to v1.3! The very cool and standy content manager works on most Windows Software Including 2000/Vista/XP and is available in the secluded download below. Heres UFox\’s change log and updates to version 1.3:
  • PMP Video Management
  • Management Folder Selection
  • Support MP4 Video File without Title
  • Fix Some Bugs
Although such a short list, he probably has been working hard to get where hes at on his manager with that support line-up of new features.

Some of you may know as of now that the creator of this (my good pal PSMonkey or Penguin) has had to leave the homebrew scene after signing a contract at a company making new PSP Games. But as we said before, hope is not lost! He has hired 2 people to work on his projects.

PSDroideka has been working on The Monkey 64 Build for quite some time now. He has also dubbed the name to MONKEY 64 ATLANTIS: Droideka Build.
Enough chit chat, lets get down to the real important stuff here:

  • Zelda OOT Now Loads, Microcode: F3DX2 (Monkey)
  • Beginnings of expansion pack support (Monkey)
  • You can choose EEPROM (save) size
  • Roms now load from a roms directory
  • Old Pochi icon
  • New Pochi eboot background
  • Implemented the one word source change StrmnNrmn Found (1-2 VSYNC\’s a second speed increase)
Also with this project, the known Lua Coder Zion is offering to help with the emulator.

Update: This seems almost to comical, but apparently the 2.8 decryptor recently released also works on v2.81. Someone probably should get fired over that one \"Tongue. Anyways, looks like now their argument of using a memory stick bigger than 4gb is completely useless now…

There has just been a release of a decrypter for the 2.8 firmware; hopefully an update for Devhook will follow soon.

For now the it can decrypt the firmware files by means of the PSAR dumper. Dark_Alex has modded the dumper so that it can now dump that of the 2.8 firmware. Since I don\’t have much to say on the subject I\’ll let QJ do the talking (or for those who don\’t care to read the whole article, yeah this was a post of news from QJ, within the lines) as stated before):

Mathieulh stopped by our forums to tell us that a new version of psardumper (modded by Dark_Alex to dump 2.80 files) is available. Dark_Alex modded psardumper for 2.80 which was originally created/coded by psppet. This psardumper will dump reboot.bin and other necessary 2.80 files for devhook emulation!

This is quite some exciting news as it has been quite some time since 2.80 has been released and many have been anxiously awaiting this day. The only thing that remains for us to wait on is an update to devhook that will allow us to emulate 2.80! So, now that we have the files extracted/dumped, it is only a matter of time before we are emulating this precious firmware on our 1.50 firmware with devhook!

To install, extract the data.psar (I suggest using PBP Unpacker) and place it in the root of your memory stick (data.psar). After this is done, make sure you have the decrypter/dumper file in the correct folder (PSP/Game) and execute it on your PSP. The program will then dump/decrypt the necessary files onto your memory stick. This program is legal, however the files dumped using it are protected under copyright laws – so do not distribute them!

Download: [Psardumper for 2.80]

Hopefully we can expect an update on Devhook soon, let\’s hope $ony doesn\’t try to squelch our attempt at another update like they did before: http://pspupdates.qj.net/index.php?pg=49&aid=60558

Homer, a proud programmer has made many a homebrew. My favourite would definately be his Game Boy Emulator, but not anymore! After this project, his new 3D Tic Tac Toe Multiplayer Mod is definately up in the ranks! From the original, a homebrew mod release last week from LMelior\’s, he has now added multiplayer (wireless that is). Since the wireless multiplayer mod is from homer, this shouldnt be called a homebrew, lets call it a "homer-brew" .

You can download the 3D mod in the url below. Enjoy!

Ever since the release of the 2.5/2.6 downgrader Fanjita seemed to be fading in to the background, but not anymore! Since the release of the libtiff exploit a lot of you may have been expecting some sort of update within the eLoader to utilize this newly discovered exploit, similar to the TIFF version of the eloader for 2.0 firmwares, well now you\’re in luck!

Fanjita has just released a new version of the eLoader that utilizes the libtiff exploit so that you don\’t have to cart around a copy of GTA and wait a few minutes for it to boot up so you can enjoy your homebrew! The new version is called "Porter", or eLoader version .9.8, and is currently for 2.0-2.6 only, but the Fanjita team is working on a way to utilize it for you 2.7+ users (yes that means 2.8 too). It is also only available in user mode but they are also working on a way for kernal acess where possible, so it\’s just a matter of time…

As of now not all homebrew works for the new eLoader but you can see what HAS been tested on the new versions at the trusty homebrew database: http://psp-homebrew.eu/ You will need to download a different loader depending on your firmware, which will be provided below.

Here is what fanjita has to say so far:

Noobz are proud to announce the release of the latest eLoader version, 0.9.8, otherwise known as the "Porter" release.

This version brings user-mode homebrew to v2.0-v2.6 PSPs, without the need for Grand Theft Auto. Now, almost all the software that worked with GTA can now be used without it. You can view a list of the known working homebrew for this version in the PSP Homebrew Database:

Please consider helping out other eLoader users by signing up for an account, and adding your test results too.

Other changes:

  • eMenu has been improved in various small ways.
  • The default menu is now eMenu, the old menu has been retired.

By now you\’re probably wondering, "What on earth is Porter?". Or maybe, what\’s next? Well, here\’s a rough roadmap for what we\’re currently working on:

  • A user-mode loader for v2.70 and v2.71.
  • A user-mode loader for v2.80.
  • A loader to support kernel-mode homebrew on those platforms where it is possible.
  • A way to do away with eLoader altogether, and load homebrew directly from the XMB.

We will not predict when these will be ready (so please don\’t ask!), but we\’re working as fast as we can on them.

So for all of you who have the "cursed" firmware, this is a new ray of hope so you don\’t have to load GTA every time you want to play SNES or something of that nature for a few minutes of downtime (trust me I can relate, it does suck having to boot GTA). So for all of you TA-082 users this should be great news, same goes for those stuck on 2.8, and please show your appreciation for Fanjita and his teams work by registering (for free) at the homebrew database and post your reseluts, that\’s the LEAST you can do :) .

I hope that this is going to be a new and better future on our quest for the use and controll of OUR own PSP\’s, and THANKS AGAIN FANJITA FOR YOUR BEAUTIFUL WORK!!!
