“Privacy advocates and career criminals alike are in a lather over reports that between September 2008 and October 2009, Sprint Nextel ponied up customer location data to various law enforcement agencies more than 8 million times. Speaking at ISS World 2009 (a conference for law enforcement and telecom industry-types responsible for “lawful interception, electronic investigations and network Intelligence gathering”), Sprint Nextel’s very own Paul Taylor, Manager of Electronic Surveillance, lamented on the sheer volume of requests the company’s received in the past year for precise GPS data for Sprint customers. How did the company meet such high demand? Apparently, his team built a special “web interface” which “has just really caught on fire with law enforcement.” We’re glad that Sprint’s plans to streamline the customer service experience don’t stop short of those who serve and protect, but as the EFF points out, plenty of nagging questions remain, including: How many individual customers have been affected? Is Sprint demanding search warrants? How secure is this web interface?”

Update: Whoa, so this is crazy. We just checked out the other suit that was dismissed, and it turns out that Verizon actually sued AT&T back in July, but not for any damages instead, Big Red asked the court to rule that its various “Most Reliable 3G Network” taglines were actually true. That wackiness certainly explains why AT&T felt the need to push back, we suppose, and it makes Verizon’s current whining over Sprint’s “Most Dependable 3G Network” claims part of a larger, lamer pattern. We’ve included a shot of the case after the break, check it out.

After being derided since, oh, 2004, the UMD is set to return to the PSPgo, albeit thanks to the peripheral guys Logitech. Sure, we can see why some people may want to play their old UMD games on their new PSPgo, which lacks the drive and plays solely downloaded titles, but they should’ve really thought it over more carefully before whacking $250 on a new device. Logitech sources dished the details to gaming site CVG, and while pricing and availability wasn’t confirmed the add-on will presumably plug into the PSPgo’s memory stick port. Source- CVG |

We’ve already seen that the Droid is perfectly capable of implementing multitouch gestures in third-party apps, and the most high-profile (if not the most important, period) implementation of that is in a good web browser where non-stop zooming is a way of life especially when browsing sites designed for desktops. Dolphin which has been kicking around for a couple months in the Market has just added multitouch support on the Droid, which automatically makes it an interesting alternative to Android’s mediocre (well, mediocre by WebKit standards, anyhow) built-in fare. If you’re running Android and you’ve got a couple fingers to spare, just check it out yourself from the Android MarketPlace.

Alrighty, so, a while ago, FreePlay discovered a game save exploit that would run homebrew. He didn’t want to give it away because he knew Sony would patch it. However, Sony got it’s hands on the exploit and patched it up in a recent firmware update. So, FreePlay released what he had been working on. Now, we’re passing it onto you! Firstly, I’d have to point out that this exploit requires firmware 6.10 and requires Archer McLean’s Mercury. Second, thank you FreePlay for making this possible! This will definitely lead to some great stuff!

Fantastic news for all you people out there with the new PSP Go!: There’s an eLoader being developed as we speak! FreePlay’s gotten his Savegame exploit to work and proved that it was universal- meaning that it works on all gamesaves and all PSP models. He’s now gotten the NID resolver working flawlessly and if he can peice together the eLoader source code from team N00bz of Noobz.eu, then we’ll have a perfectly working eLoader! I can’t wait to see the outcome of this!

Yep, that’s right, in the upcomming holiday season and release of major titles such as Modern Warfare 2 and Assassin’s Creed 2 Microsoft has begun the next ban wave of consoles (not xbl accounts). The results of the bans have been very diversed from bannings of consoles that don’t even play multiplayer games online, to those that have played pre-released games. While the exact reasons of this ban wave are unknown so far, all that is known is several people haven been banned, and others haven’t. It’s all random at this point. I for one haven’t been banned yet but I wish the best of luck to anyone that is using ixtreme currently on their 360’s. Well it seems that Microsoft has been contacted by IGN, and reports that only a small percentage of flashed 360’s have been banned. Here is the full story: IGN |

Joystiq received some interesting info from a reader today. The source claimed to have taken part in a survey run by Microsoft which featured avatars playing classic arcade games in a virtual arcade setting. If that sounds familiar, you probably played PlayStation Home for 5 minutes (and then never again). |

Though Microsoft has been a bit cagey with a solid release date for the upcoming Facebok/Twitter/Last.Fm update for Xbox Live, eagle-eyed UK readers have spotted the phrase “Service launches 17th November 2009″ on the UK Xbox website.
