teknical has released the latest version of Homebrew Browser. This program is great. Basically the Install-O-Tron/App Store for the Wii. You can browse and install homebrew games on your Wii off the internet! The latest version, among other things, now includes the ability to save games to a USB flash drive.

Here’s his changelog:

  • Added a check to make sure Wii Network is initialised and active before downloading applications
  • Fixed bug where you couldn’t cancel the download queue if you had download prompt enabled
  • Fixed bug where the meta.xml file name would change back to normal when you updated an application (this allows you to keep your custom name of applications)

  • Speed up extracting using updated libfat (speeds up download too, but it’s not noticeable)
  • Added USB support (plug in your USB device before booting HBB and turn off “Use SD” in settings)
  • Added sorting of applications by name
  • Added delete functionality to the queue (press minus to queue an application to be deleted)
  • Added download and extract information (MB downloaded/MB total, Extracted files/Files to extract)

Al

Could the DS be getting Assassin’s Creed 2: Discovery on November 20th? Is it a sequal to the first version for the DS? Ubisoft hasn’t made an announcement yet and refuses to comment.

Sounds kinda fishy to me but it’s on Play.com and other websites floating around. It’ll be interesting to see if this rumor is bogus or not.

Free

There’s not much I can really post about this subject except that Apple is giving away a free* iPod touch when you buy a MacBook, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, or iMac.

Of course, there’s an ‘*’ after the word ‘free.’ What you have to do is buy both and then contact Apple before October 8th and they will send you a rebate for the iPod touch. Check out the Source for the expanded details on what you need to do.

I still would rather buy a 300 dollar Compaq from Wal-Mart with Vista like my mom did yesterday.

Droid

Google has given us a quick preview of Android 2.0 and what it can do.

Here’s a list of a few of the mentioned future features:

  • Text-to-Speech Support: Have your Android embedded phone read every little thing to you. Or, how about you talk to your phone and tell it what to do? What about voice dialing? This is a very nice update.
  • Gestures: By now, we all know what gestures are. You touch the screen and move it in a certain pattern to perform a command that usually would take a little longer- A shortcut. What’s nice about this, though, is that there are a lot of nifty ways they’re using this feature. For instance, say you’ve got a contact list that has 2,000 names in it and you don’t want to scroll all the way to the letter ‘M’. Well, you’d just draw the letter ‘M’ on the screen and wham! Cool, huh?
  • Android Search: This is a search that’s going to be coming soon to the Android phones. It’ll let you search for a term or filename and it’ll search your phone and the internet.
  • CDMA Support: What does that mean? Sprint support. Noice.

P.S. There is a release for 2.0 but it’s highly advised that only developers should download it to test out software because it is highly unstable. You’d have to wait a little while.. Sorry… :(

Palm iTunes

Reading the title, you’re probably like, “Wha?” I’ll give you a quick background to the story real quick: The Palm Pre basically had the same hardware as the iPhone and because of it, it could make iTunes think it was an iPhone too. This is called spoofing. After iTunes thinks the Pre is an iPhone, you could do anything with it that you could with the iPhone like transfer music and videos.

However, with the latest update of iTunes, 8.2.1, the Pre no longer is supported. This is a big kick in the face to Palm.

    Mii

I’ve been waiting for the day that Nintendo brings the Mii’s over to the DS or DSi but I have the feeling that day will never come. Portuguese coder coincoin decided to step up to the challenge and released NdsMiiMaker for the DS. Right now it’s only v0.1 so don’t expect too much out of it. You can create your own Mii using a lot of facial features that the coder included. I expect even more from this program in the coming updates. :D

    Free

rolyataylor2 has released the second beta for his Freedom program for the Nintendo Wii. It’s a complete replacement for the standard Wii Home Menu so there’s no way to access the original menu unless you unistall Freedom completely. It looks good for now but rolyataylor is promising to release a more prettier version later on. It’s simple, easy, and organised so it’s worth checking out if you don’t like the default menu.

    Quote from rolyataylor2:

What is Freedom and what can it do?

    • A Full System Menu Replacement
    • Wii Disc loading (any region)
    • GC Disc loading (any region)
    • Channel loading (any region)
    • WAD Importing
    • WAD Exporting (Channel backup)
    • Savefile exporting (no importing yet!)
    • Changeable GFX
    • Changeable button layout for Wiimote (Sideways/Normal)
    • Following Controllers are supported: GC/Wiimote/Classic-Controller (All ports)
    • Loading Covers for Games/Channels see cover section for an explantion how to use them
    • Changing most SYSCONF settings
    • USBloader support, press Right/Left to select a game
    • Tons of USBGecko debug output
    • More features are planned
