With the recent release of OFW 4.88, and seeing that no CFW 4.88 has come out in these last days, PS3 developer Evilnat decided to make a new update of his CFW with a number of new options like an added File manager, Option to toggle Cobra debug/normal versions, disable CFW syscalls, block PSN login if CFW syscalls are enabled and several fixes and improvements.

Cobra 8.3 is added from Github repository and it is enabled by default
XAI Plugin is added from Github repository and it is enabled by default

It has been tested for a long time since Evilnat was developing 4.87.3, it took months of research, developing and tests and a few weeks for 4.88. No bugs have been found, but if there are any, feel free to let him know and Evilnat will fix it as soon as possible.

To avoid issues, make sure you have the latest version of your favorite homebrew like, webMAN MOD, ManaGunZ, multiMAN, etc…

Do you still need to use PSNPatch to access the PSN store as a little unsure about the SEN/PSN Enabled in the readme file. I tried with PSNPatch/X option but unable to get download list in Account Management. Signed in OK but failed on some things.
Not a total noob.. just unsure about this.

Many thanks for this release too. Installed fine over 4.87 Ferrox CFW with no issues.
Not tested PSX/PS2/PSP through WebMan yet but I do have ISO’s ready on PS3 HDD ready in respective folders.

Can access download list but get an error.
“An error occurred during the install operation. (80029519)”

Checked error number on internet and tried to activate PS3 but get same error number. Can you look into it please.
PSN Patch/X option used. PSN Patch 2017.02/B installed.

    Many thanks.

What is happening with PSN store Access.. Can’t use Ferrox as need 4.88 firmware.. Is it safe to use without PSN??? – forgot the name. lol.. too many beers last night!!! Wouldn’t work with your first release. Is it PSNReact??

Just ripping ALL the Mega CD/Sega CD games to PS3 HDD (That I have – some missing but still 80Gb in size) so can’t check app names at moment.

Any help would be grateful.. Thanks.

Will install after I manage to get RA Genesis Plus GX working with Mega/Sega CD games.. Need to set Bios up yet and have 15+ versions of those.. UK, Jap, USA and other. Will upload to Mega.nz along with many other Bios’s I have..
Heavily into Emulation and I do have Amiga/C64 forever OFFICIAL (WINDOZE Only – sorry).. Paid for and I keep getting updates from Cloanto. Version 9 is current.. Already on Mega.nz account under “Commodore Purchases”. Will add links for anyone interested.. Also got TOSEC for Commodore range – Amiga, C64, Vic 20 and more.. Everything available that has been released… NO BS either.. Over 27Gb compressed..
Properties report 464,671 files, 33,195 folders and 106Gb in size.. That is a few games I need to sort
    through.. lol

Still copying the Sega CD’s over… Look at time stamp.. Took ages to install D3:RoS of which I backed up before installing from store.. 22GB if anyone interested in that.. UK Version. Russian is 12GB if anyone wants it.. Will need to log in to PSN store and get from download list..

PSN Store is a big thing for me.. I have over £300 in purchases from there.. Many x-buys.. So I have paid for PS3 version and have Vita and PS4 versions too of same game.. I don’t want my account banning due to using CFW.. Looking in to buying a PS4 Pro pretty soon.. The Store gives me an Instant library for PS4..

Would you advise switching to OFW and getting the stuff off store and switch back to CFW after for another back-up.. 4Tb NTFS drive ready for PS3 backing up.. and YES.. MultiMan – Restart in CFW mode – Button in Lower Left -> PFS driver.. Scans and then I start the 1Tb backup.. lol

Told you I wasn’t a noob in first post.. hehe

hi, updated to beta version, still havin controller issues..some buttons work but not in right way..

    July 9th, 2021 at 3:06 pm

@shin It could be an issue with your controller. Try using a different controller or downgrade to the last version where the controller worked without issues.

I haven’t experienced any issues in the controller.

    July 9th, 2021 at 6:09 pm

@Zengobag My advice is that create another account, so you use one for purchases and another only to play online. That way if your account is banned, you don’t lose your purchases from your primary account.

Before login to SEN/PSN, you *always must* disable the CFW syscalls. Doing this your CFW technically is OFW.

NEVER launch a backup manager or homebrews while you’re connected to PSN.

And the most important *DO NOT* use cheats or mods online…

HI, I updated my CFW to CFW 4.88 Evilnat CEX Cobra 8.3 on my fat ps3 and now ps2 games wont load or if they do i just get the starting screen and then it freezes. Any help would be great, and yes I had the ps2 iso on the internal hard drive, and tried irishman and and webman games still wont load. :(

    September 5th, 2021 at 8:37 pm

@retro_king If CFW 4.88 Evilnat CEX Cobra 8.3 is causing issues, use the latest Rebug Toolbox 2.03.06 to enable the QA flags, reboot then install your previous CFW.

If the problem still persists on the previous CFW, then the issue could be the ISO images or a hardware issue.

    September 5th, 2021 at 10:34 pm

@aldostools Hi, thanks for your reply, Rebug Toolbox doesn’t work on CFW 4.88 Evilnat CEX Cobra 8.3, Previous CRW? I didn’t think you could roll back after updating to CFW 4.88 Evilnat CEX Cobra 8.3?

    September 5th, 2021 at 11:46 pm

Follow the instructions: Rebug Toolbox 2.03.06 is compatible. I made the changes.

If QA flags are enabled, you can downgrade to any FW version.

    September 6th, 2021 at 9:01 am

ha cool, thanks aldostools, the Rebug Toolbox 2.03.06 works, I managed to get one ps2 game working, but then when I tried castlevania i get the loading screen then have to reswitch my ps4 dual controller back on by ps button, then soon as I do that the screen freezers and I have to reboot :(

    September 6th, 2021 at 1:34 pm

@ALDOSTOOLS what firmware do you suggest?

    September 6th, 2021 at 8:52 pm

    I depends of your needs.

Evilnat 4.88.2 Cobra 8.3 <= Very stable. Allows PSN access. New PSN features in Cobra / CFW Tools
Rebug 4.86.1 LITE Cobra 8.2 <= Suggested if you have issues with CFW Evilnat 4.88.2
Rebug 4.84.2 REX Cobra 8.1 <= Suggested if you need DEX features.

    September 6th, 2021 at 9:41 pm

thankyou, just a quick note, how many times can you downgrade? can you run dex on cex machine?

    September 6th, 2021 at 9:54 pm

If QA flags are enabled, there is no limitation in the number of installations.
You can install any CFW version lower or higher. Just do not install OFW. Only CFW.

Rebug 4.84.2 REX allows to convert CEX console to DEX and back to CEX using Rebug Toolbox.

    September 6th, 2021 at 9:58 pm

your very knowledgeable :) I appreciate your help, I wont ever install the official firmware lol now i know i can lower or higher the firmware that’s made me feel more relaxed SO THANKYOU. :)

    September 6th, 2021 at 10:08 pm

need your help again @aldostools so I downgraded to Rebug 4.84.2 REX Cobra 8.1 ps2 games work fine now, but i want to play psn ps3 games that I have a collection off, but FATER I Installed the pkg to the psn game and used psnpatch I get an error message when i try to load the game, so anyway i found that i need to log into my psn account to activate psn games to be able to play them, but i cant log in due to the fact im on cfw 4.84.2 firmware, so i tried to follow a tutorial lastnight regards to update text file, but it requires me loading multiman and going into File manager / mmos but it says in brackets its disabled, so now Im clueless on how i can get around to playing psn games on my fat ps3, any help would be great?

    September 9th, 2021 at 10:14 pm

Your options to activate an account are:
1- Use Apollo Save Tools to create a fake PSN account
2- Use reActPSN > Create aa user and run reActPSN to generate PSN license from USB/exdata.
3- Upgrade to Evilnat 4.88.2 > activate the PSN account > stay in 4.88.2 if everything works or downgrade to Rebug 4.84.2 if necessary

    September 9th, 2021 at 10:35 pm

thanks for your quick reply, some psn games don’t have a exdata or rap file just crack pkg, also with Rebug 4.84.2 REX Cobra 8.1 when i upload pkg files to pkg folder on ps3 they don’t show in the folder on my ps3, is there anyway to enable this in Rebug 4.84.2 REX Cobra 8.1

    September 9th, 2021 at 11:05 pm

If the game/DLC is signed as FREE npDRM, they do not require a rap in exdata. All purchased games/DLC require a rap (except if the right information file (rif) is already installed).

The packages should be placed in the root of USB or in /dev_hdd0/packages to show in Package Manager.

I see you have too many questions about basic things. I recommend you that visit http://psx-place.com/forums
Check the tutorials and make questions in the forum.

hi if i update my ps3 to this version
can i still enter PSN like always after wipe history
i am now on 4.87.2 evilant cobra cex

    help please

    September 30th, 2021 at 11:20 am

@ghost1991 it is not enough to wipe the history.

You must also disable the CFW syscalls before login to PSN.

This CFW implements a new safety feature that blocks the Sign to PSN screen if the CFW syscalls are enabled.
There is an option in Network > CFW Tools that let you disable the syscalls.

It is recommended to also disable the auto-login to PSN.

@aldostools nice so if i want to go online and entering the store
    i have to disable
    and after finishing enable it?

i disable the auto-login to PSN long time ago

    September 30th, 2021 at 2:02 pm

@ghost1991 reboot after you finish with PSN to enable the CFW syscalls.

This new CFW allows to re-enable the CFW syscalls without reboot.
However, it is recommended to disconnect from PSN before do it to prevent exposing your console (e.g. other users can see when you open homebrews)

If you reboot, there are less possible mistakes.

    September 30th, 2021 at 2:11 pm
    ghost1991 says:

    @aldostools ok
    does reboot enable it automatic?
r i have to enable it by my self after reboot?

    September 30th, 2021 at 5:40 pm

CFW syscalls are enabled by default.

They must be disabled manually before login to PSN.
If you use webMAN MOD press R2+TRIANGLE to disable the CFW syscalls.
