PS3 developer Evilnat has made a new update of his CFW 4.91 Evilnat Cobra 8.5 with 4 variations (CEX/DEX/PEX/D-PEX) & several new features including a new Cobra payload, OtherOS support and a port of 4.84 DEX to 4.91 (aka PEX). In addition to the known features from CFW 4.90 like built-in File manager in XMB, Option to toggle Cobra debug/normal versions, disable CFW syscalls, block PSN login if CFW syscalls are enabled, offline activation of PSN account, QA Flags, FAN Tools, Save Data conversion, this release comes with new features like:

  • Patched DEX kernel to bypass ambulance beep brick (DEX kernel loaded with CEX TargetID)
  • Options [Convert to CEX/DEX] upgraded with more security to avoid issues
  • Options [Enable/Disable Support for DEX OFW] upgraded with more security to avoid issues
  • Added info about current external Cobra mode in [Cobra Information]
  • Reverted original PlayStation Home message in XMB (Thanks to @DeViL303)
  • Fixed error 80710A06 while downloading PKGs/webMAN MODs update from the XMB with VSH DEX
  • Fixed xai_plugin italian translation (Thanks to Weeddaa3)
  • Updated xai_plugin updater to v1.5
  • Available xai_plugin update from the XMB
  • Updated xai_plugin’s “Enable FTP” and “Disable FTP” options with newer FTP server
  • Added option “Show BD Drive Information” in [Basic Tools] in xai_plugin
  • Updated PS1 and PS2 emulators
  • Added option “Show PS3 Information” (Requested by Luanteles)
  • The option “Cobra Information” now shows current stage2 and syscall 8
  • Added PS1 and PS2 emulators researched and developed by mrjaredbeta and kozarovv
  • Fixed Extended Download Plugin icons and xml files
  • Fixed “.ntfs[PS3ISO]” format in Cobra while loading encrypted ISOs
  • Added Extended Download Plugin by DeViL3O3
  • Reverted CEX game_ext_plugin.sprx instead DEX to avoid issues with PS Plus
  • Fixed external kernel check when using the option [Swap Kernel] in PEX/D-PEX
  • Fixed random blackscreen while enabling QA Flags
  • Updated advanced QA Flags (thanks to Zecoxao and Soul)
  • Fixed 0×800299D2 error code and blackscreen (Blu-ray/DVD playback in CEX/DEX mode)

  • PEX = Custom Firmware CEX with DEX modules ported from 4.84 to 4.91. It’s like Rebug REX.
    D-PEX = Custom Firmware DEX with DEX modules ported from 4.84 to 4.91. It’s like Rebug D-REX.
    noBD = Modified CFW for use with consoles with a broken or missing Blu-Ray logic board.
    noBT = Modified CFW for use with consoles with a broken or missing Bluetooth chip.
    OC = OverClocked 600/750 Mhz. It has 100Mhz increased to the default 500 Mhz RSX / 650 Mhz GDDR3 RAM Clock speeds.

  • Use BGToolset 1.2.007 to your jailbreak PS3 currently on HFW/OFW 4.75 up to 4.91.
  • For self hosted jaillbreak use PS3Xploit Flasher Writer 4.90 or PS3Xploit Flasher Writer 4.91.

    If your console is already on custom firmware just install CFW Evilnat 4.91 over your current version from XMB or recovery menu.

    The changelog says “Created [noBD] variants for PEX and D-PEX” but they are not in the mega folder. It only contains CEX DEX PEX and D-PEX

    WOW. Dou you guys just copy and paste old information? If you read Evilnats post it clearly says
    “(noBD/noBT/OC version not available)”

    What is the difference in variants? I’m just looking for the best update to play PS2/Ps3 games. Im at 4.82 and i just cant play some PS2 games. Should I even update?
