Daedalus R9trStrmnNrmn, the author of the famed Daedalus Nintendo 64 emulator, has brought his newest creation to us. This version has been tweaked significantly from the previous versions. If you have been under a rock for the past few months (or just want to learn specifics) you should head over to StrmnNrmn's blog to read how this emulator has evolved over time. Even if you know nothing about how the emulator functions, StrmnNrmn explains things in a very understandable way. If you don't even care about the technical aspects of the emulator, you should still feel free to sign up and tell him what a great job he is doing!

Basically, and put in his own words, StrmnNrmn says that the new version changes are:

  • faster
  • new UI
  • audio
  • various graphical fixes

In his blog, StrmnNrmn states that he thinks that when the audio is enabled, that it takes up about 20% of the resources that the emulator has, so if you would like to speed up the game(s), it is probably best if you disable the sound. He has also made HUGE advancements in how the memory is being handled which has allowed for just about a 40% increase in speed across the board!

Pick up the download right here in our download section!

for firmware 1.00 and for firmware 1.50

The source code can be downloaded here .

We've all seen the crazy new XMB modifications spring up out of nowhere these past couple of weeks. The mods that you see continuously popping up everywhere are results of people editing the .rco files within the PSP's flash0 (vsh/ resource – to be exact). This new mod will change the "busy" icon in the bottom right-hand corner of the psp (seen when loading a umd or accessing the memory stick). This mod comes to you from pimpmypsp and pspfreak101.

If you are a nut about modding your psp to the hilt, you should definitely check out this new mod. The file provided in the link below is red; however, you can most likely search and find other variations.

You can download this HERE. This has been tested to work on 3.10 oe-a as well!

If you are still hungry for mods, you should satisfy that hunger by modifying other aspects of your firmware. As of now, you can change your battery power indicator, your icons, your font, your gameboot, your bootsound, and my personal favorite… the XMB wave and other (more minor) things as well. If you want to learn more about these different things and see or show off your own, feel free to do just that in the forum. If you aren't a member, signing up takes just a few short minutes and will give you access to a great peer network here at pspbrew.com!

Mario3d

When I first looked at the title I was thinking an actual 3D Mario Model, my first thought was N64 Mario,
my new thoughts are: "Is that possible? In C???" Yup, or thats what SANiK intended. He sais

that this will for sure not be a fully completed game, because of the lag, he sais its possible to boost

the FPS up, and the speed up to 90%. Heres what he said:

"This demo is never going to become a full game. It lags at certain points but could be sped up 90%, I didn't give a kwap though to put more time into it. My little Mario Demo is just a taste of what could be done if one actually tries (with just 6 days to code it + 1 day to port it to the PSP)

This isn't within everyone's ability, and of course depending on the homebrew game 2D could be the better of the two. However this demo illustrates that 3D homebrew game is not impossible (take AnonymousTipsters' ThrottleX as evidence for that!) and therefore SANiK is giving developers the chance to finish this game; which apparantly can be achieved by starting from scratch using poly.c and math.c."

To be honest, Its pretty obvious C++ can have quite the potential, but in C, wow just amazing.

All I want is your opinions on this. Download below. Enjoy!

Daedalus R9trYa, you heard me. daedalus is back. R9 will release in a short while,

were just glad strmn nrmn is back right? Right. The release wont be out

for atleast the couple weeks of february. One of the major updates

hopefully in his changelog include audio support (sound enabled) and

the ability to dump textures!! Thats right, soon maybe your own textures will

roam on Peach's castle wall. Who knows.

Now lets get to what you are all waiting for:

  • Added support for RGBA 4444 and 5551 textures, saving a bunch of memory in the front end.
  • Tidied up all the texture conversion code, fixing a few bugs in the process
  • Fixed the width/height of FillRect calls in 1 and 2 cycle mode (fixed a few small graphical issues)
  • Fixed a blending bug (fixed a few small graphical issues)
  • Use 16-bit textures on the PSP to represent 16-bit N64 textures. Saves time converting, saves memory, and faster rendering
  • Added mirrored texture support (this fixes lots of small graphical glitches)
  • Fixed a LoadTile bug, allowing a couple of hacks to be removed (this also fixes various small graphical glitches)
  • Added some new blend modes for various roms
  • Fixed the Tri2 command for F3DLX microcodes
  • Fixed a bug in busy-wait detection (this wasn't working correctly with dynarec code, net result is a small speedup)
  • Fixed a few dynarec stability issues (relating to exceptions occuring mid-trace)
  • Added audio support :)
  • Added the ability to dump textures (developer builds only at the moment)
  • Fixed screenshots. Again.
  • Implemented cmp.s, cvt.s, cvt.w, mtc1, mfc1, bc1f, bc1t, j, cfc1, ctc1, daddu, trunc.w.s, bc1t, bc1f, bc1tl, bcifl, bnel, beql, blezl, bgtzl, bltzl, blezl in dynarec (this gives a decent speedup)
  • Avoid setting the branch delay flag and current PC in generated dynarec code unless absolutely necessary (this gives another small speedup)
  • Much better memory access handling in dynamically recompiled code (this gives a BIG speedup) :)
  • Use a second code buffer for generated dynarec code, to avoid polluting the instruction cache (this gives another small speedup)
  • Further improve the memory access handling in generated dynarec code (another small speedup)
  • Fix register usage analysis for lwc1/swc1/mfc1/mtc1 which was preventing base registers used in these instructions from being cached (another small speedup)
  • Have compensation blocks restore nobbled registers, so on-trace code does't need to reload (another small speedup)

3.10 OE-A

It seems early 2007 is a pretty good time to be a PSP owner, especially if you were stuck with 2.81 or higher. With the new 3.03 Downgrader, now comes the newly decrypted, and now Custom Firmware: 3.10 OE-A! Other than the obvious change to 3.10 firmware, here are the changes made, excluding the new features of 3.10:
  • Change from 3.03 firmware to 3.10
  • 4th level of brightness (aka battery eater) can now be selected also without ac adaptor.
  • Changes in hen core:
    • Static user elf's can now be executed in the 3.10 kernel. (this includes snes user version between other programs)
    • Tyranid's patch (added in 3.03 OE-C) consequences was not explained very well in the changelog of 3.03 OE-C:
      • For programmers: it allows kernel modules to have user imports, making kernel programming in 3.03/3.10 less strict.
      • For users: plugins and applications that worked in 2.71 SE, but not in OE, *may* now work in 3.03OE-C and 3.10 OE-A
As for Popstation, the plugin released to load the 3.02 pops on 3.03 will no longer work, however, they expect a new plugin to be released next week! Now as for any program related to flash, there is always a chance of bricking your PSP. PSPBrew holds Zero Responsibility for what happens, but don't let that discourage you. Have fun with your new Custom Firmware!

    3.03 Downgrader released!

It has finally come, Fanjita came, saw, and conquered 3.03. Just days after the proof of concept he released, he has produced a downgrader. We can expect Sony to make another update, then DAX to make another custom firmware.

Any way, you will need both the 1.5 and 3.03 EBOOTS, and the 3.03 homebrew enabler that can be found at www.noobz.eu. This only works on 3.03 (But if you have 2.81+ just update to 3.03) Make sure you follow the “Downgrade-HOW TO” read me and you will make this out without brick. Thank you Fanjita and the Noobz team! Neither we at pspbrew or the Noobz team can be held responsible if you brick, enjoy!

Well I’ll be darned, Fanjita has come back with a hack for firmwares up to 3.03. Seems as if the GTA exploit was not fully patched. Right now it is just a proof of concept showing some text. Fanjita is going to wait a while and let us soak this in before he works on it more, he also wants to give Sony time to smack their heads and say “Doh!”

The remaining question, is there venerability to kernel mode? Here is what Fanjita had to say, “It’s a bit tricky, but yes, ther kernel mode found by Team C+D still works from the Goofy exploit. The down grader will use this to perform its magic.” The problem is you will need a copy of the original, unpatched, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories (No Vice City). The new UMDs in stores are patched, so look for used or a friend who has one.

Here are the instructions

  • You need an original, unpatched GTA:LCS game. The new copies that you find in the shops now will not work.
  • This only works for Liberty City Stories, not Vice City Stories.
  • Extract the files from the ZIP into the /PSP/SAVEDATA folder on your memory stick.
  • Start the GTA game, and enjoy the feeling of freshly-minted homebrew :D

Enjoy, hopefully we wont get any more people asking for hacks for some of those newer official Sony updates.

PSP WiFile Transfer

Despite the language barrier, I can tell a good app no matter what. A Brazilian developer, Luiz Pestana, has just released an excellent FTP app based on Zx-81’s PSPFTP. But here’s the thing, this version was developed for use on the OE firmwares, taking advantage of the higher firmware’s WiFi security. This kind of App is also perfect if you've lost or cannot find a USB cable for your PSP! Note that you must place it in the normal GAME folder, not GAME150 like any other homebrew. Great job Luiz, we hope to see farther updates to your new homebrew!

moonshell

This application by Infantile Payalysiser before had quite a few bugs in its

final final beta 1 release.
He has come back to the scene today to fix most of those today! Its most unlikely that this will be the last release, for we hope for a finalfinalfinalfinal beta release to fix most all of the bugs atleast.

One of the main changes in this release is the L/R button is locked item is added to the system menu.

You can find all of the changelogs in our downloads section.
