Google and China’s war has been going on since mid-January when Google refused to continue censoring search results in the country. Now though, Google is rumored to be pulling censorship this month- something the Chinese government’s IT ministry describes Google’s plans as “unfriendly and irresponsible” and warning that the company will have to bear the consequences of its actions.

Li Yizhong, a Minister of Industry and Information Technology in China, responded with "if you don't respect Chinese laws, you are unfriendly and irresponsible, and the consequences will be on you" when asked about how China will retaliate if Google stayed true to its word.

The team behind JPCSP, a program for the PC that emulates the PSP, has released their newest build of their emulator. The project itself is starting to finally take a shape and form and is gaining in popularity with their recent success. There are a handful of titles now that are more or less 100% playable along with ones that are only half-playable or need the headers decrypted before getting them to work. The entire project is coded in java, so many people speculate the potential for this emulator, but it’s looking to be one of the first-emerging PSP emulators that gets the job done and has a good dev team behind it. Below are two download links, the first one being for 32 bit operating systems and the second for 64 bit. There is also a guide in their forum for linux users looking to run this on their computers.

What a crazy day for the PS3. Sony apparently has no idea what is the reason behind just about every single one of their customers not being able to connect to the Playstation Network. The errors occurred early afternoon (PST) and they kept on coming. There may be only one answer during these dark times and although the prospect of spending time without your video games and instead investing it with your loved ones and families… the answer may be to buy an Xbox 360. No, of course that’s a cheap shot, but it makes you wonder what is exactly going on?

The rampant speculation about “Sony phasing out the fatties” is already hitting the airwaves. I, personally, feel it’s just a typical server downtime and whether planned or not should return to optimal working status within hours, but some people would rather believe it’s judgment day. Kotaku and Gizmodo have both picked up on the story so far with nothing much to add other than “nobody seems to know what is going on”, although, oddly enough, it seems that most people who claim to have a slim PS3 are experiencing no issues at all… which may prove that Sony hates black fatties.

Halo has been a franchise that many say has arguably changed modern first person shooter video games. No, the idea that mankind must fight in an epic battle for survival against a merciless alien race is NOT quite the most original idea in itself, but the combat mechanics that made the series stand out ARE. In a recently-released documentary from Bungie, the crew explains their ambitious goals for the upcoming Halo game, Halo Reach. In the documentary, Bungie makes several claims that they have ten times more colliding particle calculations to play with, higher fidelity character models, an all-new cast, and much larger firefights in a “sandbox” mode. The big picture is that they will have roughly four times the amount of polygons which means you’ll get more customizable Spartans, environments, weaponry, and vehicles. And on that note, they claim to have the goal of adding twice the weapons, twice the characters, twice the vehicles etc. For those of you that are Halo fans, Halo Reach seems to be “the game” tha

t will deliver “the experience” that you’ve been craving to find.

Our good pal and forum friend, AdventWolf, tipped us off about this little bit of tech news. Jumping straight in, for a few years this type of 3D technology has been being developed – originally targeting the PC gaming scene through Nvidia. The technology released was dubbed, “Geforce 3D Vision“. Interestingly enough, for those who don’t know, the PS3’s graphics processor, the “RSX”, is created by Nvidia, so this type of 3D technology has only been an earshot away from being used with the PS3. It was just a matter of time. Now, it seems, that technology may become a new feature with the upcoming firmware release, 3.20. Currently at firmware 3.15, if speculation holds true, it shouldn’t be long before people are able to download a simple firmware update to possibly take hold of some great extra graphical features.

The downside? Yes, there is a downside. The downside is that you’re going to need a 120hz television/ computer monitor in order to experience this extra feature – something only the big spenders currently have access to. The monitor will need to be a native 120hz screen unless you purchase something like a Mitsubishi DLP monitor which come with the necessary hardware to boot. The DLP TV’s may only need to be set to 60hz as well even though they support 120hz and overall may support higher resolutions (1680×1050 for a standard 120hz LCD compared to 1920×1080 for a DLP HDTV). I suppose it may also be considered to be a downside that you will need to wear 3D glasses also – something which some people may not appreciate.

For now, most of this is rumor and speculation, but now that this information is coming mostly from developers that have hands-on access to the newest firmware update, this news seems pretty likely to be an upcoming release that may add some extra functionality to your PS3.

We’re terribly sorry for the recent downtime the site has incurred, but we’ve been hard at work to bring the site back up. We’ve had issues with a few things including hosting issues as well as a bit extra, which I’ve outlined in our forum, but we’re back now and we’re working hard towards being better than ever before. Keep your eyes peeled for a forum update within the next few days that will include a section for average members to post news for the website in. That news can be taken and posted up by a staff member, giving full credits to the user, of course, and will be a great way that the community can take part in making the site a better place.

Also, it’s HIGHLY advised to enter the Brewology Network through www.Brewology.com instead of using one of the mirrors like WiiBrew or PSPBrew because we’re going to be adding news posts that are specific to the Brewology page itself about the latest tech trends and what-not and the only way to see such information is to enter the site through www.Brewology.com. Doing this will also filter the news from every aspect of our site into one convenient page for you to view! So please, if you haven’t already, make sure to add the Brewology page to your bookmarks or homepage or just plain enter it in when accessing the site.

Thanks for everything folks. Again, sorry for the downtime, but welcome back to the Brew!

Sure, you could go the easy route and pick up a MiFi, but if you’re serious about your on-the-road wireless broadband, you should probably buy an entire car. Ford’s next generation of Sync systems will have built-in WiFi and the capability of sharing a 3G connection with the car’s driver-defined white list of approved devices. It’s a bring-your-own-3G-card affair (you jack into the Sync’s USB plug), and sounds like a nice way for Ford to get you to pay for a 3G connection that could theoretically fuel some of those upcoming Sync apps. The second generation of Sync is due to launch next year, and we should be seeing plenty of it at CES in January: Ford’s CEO has the opening keynote.

So the latest firmware from Yoshihiro and the boys from the Gen team is out, released about 3 days ago, but we didn’t report on it because it had reported bug issues. The most notable bug was that it didn’t recognize ISO and CSO files on the memory card. That issue has been fixed in this release and all is well in the custom firmware world, so if you are wanting to download the newest custom firmware for the “GEN” series, this may just be the download for you. As always, we’ve provided the download links just below for your convenience. Happy Brewing!

Dell’s reorganizing the entire company to create a bonafide mobile division that will make work on phones and other portable thingers, headed up by Ron Garriques, formerly of Motorola. Incidentally, Dell’s consumer PC division is getting rolled into the small-business unit—which kinda smells weird to us, especially considering how Dell’s shrinking.

Shigeru Miyamoto

Japan honored a man who many would say single-handedly changed modern video gaming all by himself. Shigeru Miyamoto was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award in Japan for his revolutionary approaches and renovations to the video gaming industry. Chances are you’ve heard of this guy before. His name is plastered all over the place in the Nintendo community. Why? He’s the brains behind the meat and potatoes of the Nintendo lineup. Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario – the gearhead that orchestrated all of these franchises from the ground up is being honored in a big way and boy does he deserve it.

Miyamoto, a man that didn’t come from riches, didn’t graduate from the finest college, and didn’t outright steal his otherwordly and sometimes outrageous ideas for video gaming certainly deserves this great honor. It goes further though! The Nintendo DS and Wii were honored with the Distinguished Service Award for helping to “further expanded the horizons of gaming culture”. Talk about one happy time for Nintendo… but in all fairness, the company and the man himself are truly deserving of such awards.
