drizzt84 has released 1.03.01 as a fix to a bug in 1.03. His recommendation is to immediately upgrade and to not use Gaia v1.03.

Some bugs fixed in Weltall code. Upgrade as soon as possible and do NOT use V1.03! As Soon As Possible upgrade and do NOT use V1.03!

lousyphreak has been hard at work on his port of ScummVM for the PS3. Earlier today he checked in some updates that adding pkg making as well as adding the virtual keyboard.

I am currently working on a ScummVM port for the PS3, much of it already works, but there are still some points which need fixing.

Games tested:
Monkey Island 1 & 2 (FMTowns Version)
works, except the cursor is broken after playing
Monkey Island 3
works, sometimes sound skipping (cracks)
Day of the Tentacle:
works 100%
The Legend of Kyrandia (CD Version)
works 100%
Beneath a Steel Sky (CD and Floppy)
crashes at intro, but if skipped it works fine
Discworld
works 100%

UPDATE: 27.10.2010
.) automatically builds installable package with “make pkg” (may need testing)
.) Virtual keyboard enabled (I will select a better layout later)
.) enable keyboard everywhere with R1 (if its not automatic)

- sram support
- option saving
- state select in game (using right analog stick)
- multiple bug fixes

I am in the process of completely revamping our framework. One of the changes to come will be an easy way for us to map input therefore allowing the end users to as well. Expect to see custom controller mapping in fceu and snes9x in a few days.

Around the time of the Tokyo Game Show, Sony held a private meeting at its offices in Tokyo’s Aoyama. The purpose was to show off the PSP2.

Several sources have confirmed to Kotaku that the PSP2 does have a previously rumored touch panel on the back of the hardware. The touch panel was described as looking like a big mouse trackpad. When Sony showed the PSP2, it did not provide concrete details regarding how the trackpad will be implemented in games and instead is leaving that to the discretion of game developers.

The screen itself is not only sharper than the current PSP’s, but about an inch larger. The larger screen means that the PSP2 will be larger as well. In the private meetings, Sony is touting the screen as “HD”.

A larger PSP should not be that big of an issue for Sony — especially in a mobile environment with large tablets like the iPad. It also shows that Sony realizes it is no longer simply competing with Nintendo, but also Apple.

It is unclear whether this is the same handheld described by the Wall Street Journal. According to the paper, Sony is working on a device that mixes a game player, an e-book reader and a netbook computer.

In late September, there were also reports that the PSP2 hardware was in the hands of “numerous” developers.

Currently, the PSP2’s hardware is not finalized, and Sony is having problems balancing battery, power and heat. There are apparently overheating issues, but Sony is, of course, aiming to have those issues corrected by the time the hardware is publicly shown.

Sony set the PSP2’s goals (what Sony wants it to do), but is still tinkering with the portable’s innards. The PSP2’s tech specs are expected to change, meaning that things like chip size and processor size are variable.

Sources tell Kotaku that the PSP2’s release window is fall 2011. Sony is not yet talking openly about the PSP2.

Sony did not offer a comment in time for publication.

NOTE: The above image is not a picture of the new device just one of many fan-created mock-ups of a new PSP.

Good news, but I wish it was more portable and not bigger. The PSP 3000 size is plenty big.

Also – the PSP Go price cut is official, it is now $200 in the US.

squarepusher2 has just released a new version of the SNES9x emulator.

Here is the changelog:

Build 4.3.8 (23-10-2010) – rev. number 768cf9df52
————————————————-
* Updated to new SNES9x version – now runs the following games that didn’t work previously (or had noise instead of sound):
- Earthworm Jim 2
- NBA Hangtime
- MS Pac Man
* PSGL driver built and in use – speed is now better at 1080p than it was previously at 480p. There’s still a resolution switch, but there’s no need anymore to switch to 480p – speed is the same at 1080p as it is on 480p, and it’s damn good for the record. Enjoy.
* All resolutions supported now
* Added simple hardware filtering settings – Linear Interpolation and Point Filtering. Shaders will come later.
* Added Aspect Ratio settings – 4:3 and 16:10 (HDTVs with 16:9 aspect ratio might experience that on 16:10, the screen might be slightly cut-off. We’re working on a proper aspect ratio setting for 16:9)
* Can now load configurable settings from snes9x.conf file stored in the USRDIR folder. Saving of this file will come in the next release.
* Will now select the highest resolution your TV/monitor can support – so is no longer set to default at 480p.
* No more performance difference between 1.92 pkg and 3.41 pkg.
