rebug lv2 loader tool

The Rebug team released the tool LV2 Loader to aid developers working with the lv2_kernel.self.

LV2 Loader is a tool for devs to allow the quick testing of modified lv2_kernel.self by launching it from the root of dev_flash without the risk of bricking the PS3 or need for a flasher if the new kernel does not work.

The app will run on any 3.15, 3.41, 3.55 CEX or DEX firmware that has lv1 mmap and lv2 peek and poke patches. It also has udp_printf support which will return the offset of the lv2 boot path in lv1 and a little bit of info about what it is doing.

Check it out @ rebug.me/lv2-loader

PlayStation 3 developer PS3Hen has released some updates regarding his Hybrid Firmware 4.0. This firmware mod requires a hardware flasher as well as a PlayStation 3 that is on custom firmware 3.55. With this release you will need to patch the firmware yourself with instructions below. Changes include the XMBFM ported by PS3Hen, released by DeViL303, PS2 game disk recognition and icon changes.

To Quote:

I’m not going to make you re-download another 180MB PUP file, Instead I’ve decided to release a patch which has all the tools required to patch my Version 2 pup to be Version 2.5 (although when the link for the version 2 pup gets taken down I’ll release a version 2.5 pup). The patch files can be downloaded here:

Just like before only retail signed .PKG can be installed with this. Have fun. THIS HFW WILL NOT ALLOW HOMEBREW!

Change Log: Version 2.5

  • Fix’s Custom Icons/labels not showing in-game
  • Using Version 0.07 of the XMB File Manager (ported to FW 4.00 by me)
  • PSN content waiting to be installed/copied now only shows in the (Playstation Network Content) sub menu of the XMB File Manager (I noticed the XMB File Manager used the wrong internal link to show PSN content so I fixed this)
  • PS2 game discs show as “Playstation 2 Format Disc” instead of “Unrecognised Data” on Non-BC PS3s
  • The XMB File Manager uses a custom icon(see picture)
  • The “Playstation Network Content” now uses a (IMO) better icon

How to install the 3.2 Update Patch:

  1. Install PS3MFW Builder v0.2.1
  2. Copy the ‘change_xml_files.tcl’ file to the ‘task’ folder of PS3MFW Builder
  3. Put my “modded FW 4.00(releasev2).PUP” as the “Original fw” and whatever you want as the “Modified fw”
  4. Uncheck every thing except “PS3HEN’s 4.00HFW Patch 1″
  5. In “PS3HEN’s 4.00HFW Patch 1″ link each file on the task page to the ones in the “Dev_flash files to be patched” folder in this package
  6. Select “Build MFW”

El Nomeo dropped by PS3Hax yesterday and said he was leaking the PS3 PhreEngine. Additionally he said he will be leaking the full 3.70 PS3 SDK.

To quote El Nomeo:

I’ve always wanted to give something back to the community and here it is.

SDK 3.70 will be uploaded soon, having troubles with my connection! PhyreEngine Link Below.

Hopefully someone will figure out a way of having this usable with PSL1GHT.

Install it by running the PhyreInstaller.exe, then when its done go to C:/PhyreEngine3006/Tools and run PhyreLevelEditor.exe. Navigate the viewport using the mouse wheel to zoom in and out, hold alt key and click the left mouse button to rotate. Change the viewport by selecting the X Y Z values in the top left. To load a samples navigate to Media and select one in there.

Also for those who like tearing apart self files the levels generate their self files in the Tools folder.

Link to PhyreEngine:
http://www.slingfile.com/file/h6J1wfohDe

Make sure you follow the PhyreEngine_Getting_Started_e.pdf, in the Docs folder. Then you can run the samples on your PC. Controls in the samples are:
Forward: A
Backwards: Z
Turn Left: O
Turn right: P
Sure you can find the rest when your running it.

Will Follow up with the 3.70 SDK later.

Enjoy!

UPDATE 1:
ETA 2/3AM GMT for SDK.

UPDATE 2:
Anyone found anything kool on the phyreengine yet? Abit premature i know (thats what she said) but ive discovrerd how easy it is to import and drag into map, try http://www.turbosquid.com/Search/3D-Models/free/dae for more .dae models, looks like they may need physics.

UPDATE 3:
Had some troubles last night with uploading, its doing it right and should be ready in about 4 hours, apollogies for the delay.

UPDATE 4:

A new announcement from Sony at Gamescom reveals a $50 pricecut for the PS3.

_______________________________________________________

Reports from June that Sony would drop the price of the PlayStation 3 at Gamescom have turned out to be accurate. Sony announced moments ago that it’s dropping the price of its 160GB console to $249.99 effective immediately.

It’s been quite a while since the last PS3 price cut. Along with the unveiling of the PlayStation 3 Slim in 2009, the price of all older models were dropped to $299 to match the Slim’s new price — where the system has remained until today.

This now puts additional pressure on Microsoft, which has also gone without a price drop for some time and now has less of a barrier between 360 and PS3. There was a great deal of speculation that it would be slashing the 360’s price at E3, but with the system selling very well in the United States as of late, it may not have made sense to do so then. With the PS3 now available at a lower price, that could cut into 360 sales as we approach this holiday season. Nintendo, meanwhile, cut the price of the Wii just a few months ago.

With the 160GB system now $249.99, the 320GB system falls to $299.99. A new Infamous 2 bundle — which includes the 320GB system, Infamous 2, and 30 days of PlayStation Plus time — is also now available for $299.99, which is an excellent deal considering Infamous 2 is not even three months old.

For the first time, we have been involved in something truly spectacular

We were the first in the world to test the downgrade from 3.70 to 3:55 on a PS3 Slim (With flash memory, ” NOR “) using the ProgSkeet and patched some files provided by dospiedra, a famous Spanish coder already discovered on the crest of the wave for the method of going back to 3:55 / 3:41 with the PS3 (FAT flash memory “NAND”).

After several attempts, in collaboration with dospiedra, we got to go back from 3.70 to 3:55, enter the factory mode with a simple key to jailbreak, rifleshare a modified version of 3:55 to prevent the SYSCON (the registry in between downgrades) was consulted during the downgrade and now we are happily at 3:55 KMEAW!

With this version of moddata 3:55, you can perform a memory dump today and you can switch on the fly from 3:55 to 3.70 without having to make all this long procedure times: progskeet using it you can go straight to 3.70 changed to 3:55!

Dospiedra said it will release details on the patches applied to the NOR and the update file as soon as possible.

New life for those who arrived too late to enjoy the benefits of the 3:55?

PS3 Controller on Android

Not a whole lot to say here. Sixaxis has developed an app for your Android phone that can enable you to use a PS3 controller on your phone, and the process is relatively simple at that. It doesn’t even require soldering! The app isn’t compatible with all phones though, you can download the Sixaxis Compatibility Checker that will let you know whether or not you can use the $1.65 app. Your phone will also have to be rooted. There’s not much to the process though other than running the SixaxisPairTool on your pc to get things up and running.

Assassin's Creed Revelations

Ubisoft announced that a multiplayer beta would be released September 3rd, initially only available to PSN+ or non-paying Ubisoft Uplay users. Everyone else will have access on September 12th. It doesn’t seem like a beta has been announced yet though for the Xbox 360 or PC. I for one am not very concerned that it seems to be PS3 only so far considering it’s only a multiplayer beta, I am glad though that they are hopefully working out the kinks in the multiplayer aspect this time.

“The beta, Ubi’s announcement indicates, includes subsets of Revelations’s full multiplayer offering, providing, for now, just nine characters (The Sentinel, The Vanguard, The Guardian, The Vizier, The Thespian, The Deacon, The Bombardier, The Trickster and The Champion), three maps (Knight’s Hospital, Antioch, Constantinople) and four modes (Wanted, Manhunt, Deathmatch, and Artifact Assault).”

To be honest I’d be completely happy if they just removed the multiplayer aspect all together and devote that disc space to a longer singleplayer mode. Maybe it’s just me though, although if a multiplayer beta is any indication of the time they’re putting into Revelation’s multiplayer maybe they can win my heart back. Good idea, now just make it a good execution!

PlayStation Plus Auto Update

Hi everyone! As we are continuously working toward providing the best gaming and entertainment experience on PlayStation 3, I wanted to give you all a heads up on the following new features and changes coming with the next system software update (v.3.70).

To make things easier for PlayStation Plus subscribers, we’ve added the option to automate two existing features. The [Automatic Download] feature will now be called [Automatic Update] as a result of these new options.

  • A new auto upload function for online save data back-up will be added to make it easier to back-up your game save data. Under (Game), select the game for which you want to automatically upload saved data, and then press the Triangle button.
  • Also, Trophies will now sync automatically at the timing of Auto Download.

A new recommendation function will be added that enables you to share your recommendations for PlayStation Storeitems, such as games and videos, with PlayStation Network friends. You will be able to send messages with a store link from the product pages within the PlayStation Store.

Due to the increase in video applications being offered on PS3, we are adding a new category on the XMB called TV/Video Services. This category will include video applications such as Netflix, Hulu PLUS, and VUDU.

  • You’ll be able to find and download all of the video applications available on PS3 directly from this new XMB category.
  • A folder labeled “My Channels” within this category will allow you to easily access your downloaded applications.
  • Any videos downloaded from the PlayStation store will continue to be placed in the existing Video category on the XMB

Two updates for all of you enjoying Blu-ray 3D movies on PS3:

  • 3D support will now be available when accessing Java-based special features on Blu-Ray
  • DTS-HD MA, DTS-HD HR decoding/bit stream output (or lossless audio) will be supported while playing Blu-ray 3D movies.
  • 3D digital photos in MPO format can now be viewed in 3D on the XMB and in the Photo Gallery app.

The 3.70 update will be available soon; additional details will be available after the firmware goes live here. Separately, there will also be a minor PSP system software update (v. 6.60) launching soon.

As always the ps3 scene always recommends you DON’T update until more is learned about the firmware. Also expect a new TOS.
