New on Brewology: the Packaging Workbench, homebrew tools that don't require downloads

If you build, re-icon, check or submit PlayStation homebrew, there is a new section on the site: Homebrew Tools. The first tool there is the Packaging Workbench, and it runs in your browser. Nothing to install, nothing to download, works on Windows, Mac, Linux and phones.

What it does today:

  • PARAM.SFO editor: open any PARAM.SFO (PSP, PS3, PS4, or Vita), change the title, title ID, version, category and the rest, with each console’s limits enforced, and save it.
  • EBOOT.PBP repacker: swap the icon, background image and sound of a PSP homebrew without rebuilding it, edit its PARAM.SFO, and repack.
  • Vita VPK inspector: check a VPK before you install or submit it: firmware, LiveArea assets and sizes, the SFO, the structure. Preview the bubble and LiveArea, swap images, repack.
  • PS3 PKG inspector: what is inside a package, its content ID and metadata, and whether the XMB will show the right title.
  • Compare: open two versions of a package and see exactly what changed.

It also runs the same checks the Brewology store runs on submissions, so you can fix problems before you submit instead of after.

Nik (also known as MonkeyMaximus) has just released the third Java Applet in the PS3 Homebrew Suite on Brewology.com/ called the PS3 Update Finder!! It goes perfectly with the previously released tools to download homebrew straight to your PS3 from the internet and to download PSN content without the need to log into the PSN!! It was only a little while ago that the homebrew manager was released to save people much time. No longer did they have to get their homebrew from online sources from all over and install them onto their computers, and then FTP them over to the PS3. The site does it automatically. And guess what! It’s very, very secure! We store no personal information on our sites, whatsoever!

What exactly does this new Applet do? Well, it’s an Update Finder that is based in Java so it isn’t limited to solely the Windows OS. All you have to do is enter your Game ID for the game you want to search for, and a list of updates and patches will be returned that you can easily cue up to be downloaded all at once. That simple.
Come check out the new Java-Based Applet over at Brewology.com/ today!

Brewology is releasing its own PKG installer. Input your PS3 FTP Server IP address and choose what you want it will be waiting for you on your PS3.

Features:

  • Cross Platform (Windows, Linux, OSX)
  • Downloads directly to your PS3 (no need to worry about transferring or disk space)
  • Auto generates PDB files
  • Creates the correct folder structure
  • Shares PSN Link with Brewology for others to use as well (help the community effort). Check the repository of them here. Try clicking one :)

Notes:

  • Things to fix/add include: Threading, Multiple Downloads,  Make it not ugly, Better categories on PSN link repos, A few more surprise… In all honesty there is a TON to do… just gotta find the time.
  • I still don’t have a device I can use to jailbreak my PS3. So I have not got to test everything myself. As you find bugs please post them on the forum. I will get to fixing things ASAP.
  • I would like to thank Shane (from ps3-hacks irc) aka Cypherous on our forum for helping me test.
