Nik (also known as MonkeyMaximus) has just released the third Java Applet in the PS3 Homebrew Suite on Brewology.com/ called the PS3 Update Finder!! It goes perfectly with the previously released tools to download homebrew straight to your PS3 from the internet and to download PSN content without the need to log into the PSN!! It was only a little while ago that the homebrew manager was released to save people much time. No longer did they have to get their homebrew from online sources from all over and install them onto their computers, and then FTP them over to the PS3. The site does it automatically. And guess what! It’s very, very secure! We store no personal information on our sites, whatsoever!

What exactly does this new Applet do? Well, it’s an Update Finder that is based in Java so it isn’t limited to solely the Windows OS. All you have to do is enter your Game ID for the game you want to search for, and a list of updates and patches will be returned that you can easily cue up to be downloaded all at once. That simple.
Come check out the new Java-Based Applet over at Brewology.com/ today!

JasonMckey has updated the PL3 payload with an important new feature. PL3 fixes the 80010019 error that MOH invokes (as well as other new games). MOH now works as intended, without any hacking and no need for the game update.

The fact that Medal of Honor is now working without the need of the game update, makes me think we were mislead by the news that 3.42 brought new EBOOT keys. Unless JasonMckey somehow dumped the keys and that is what he implemented (which seems highly unlikely). Instead it seems 80010019 is just an error that prevents version tampering with the PARAM.SFO by double checking a version in the EBOOT.BIN. However, please note this is just speculation based on JasonMckey’s twitter posts.

On another note, support for 3.41 Kiosk consoles was also recently added to PL3 by Mark Webber. Those of you with store/kiosk demo PS3 units can now join the jailbreaking party!

KaKaRoToKS: Just added a patch to PL3 that fixed 80010019 error of MOH… works with no update necessary now. Patched thx to @JasonMcKey

KaKaRoToKS: Added a new payload to PL3 which is equivalent to hermes’s “patched mode”. Now games compat should be 100%. MOH just works, no hacks needed.

fl0PPsy’s own port of PSGroove with Hermes v4b for Rockbox devices — a whole lot of ‘em. You’ll need Rockbox installed prior to hacking your PS3, so do that here first. Well actually, maybe you should first see if your device is compatible or not.

Total_Noob, GEN team member has apparently finalized what will allow PSP 1000, 2000, 3000, pspgos owners to use their homebrew. There is no current release date to be announced but at least before Christmas. Something to note: This flaw is in PSP firmware 6.30 and 6.31 but is less stable which is why he is concentrating on 6.20.

The developer AerialX released PSL1GHT. It is an Open Source Software Development Kit, which will compile your homebrew for your PS3. This is a huge step as it allows Homebrew developers to make homebrew that is legal for the PS3.

Some notes

PSL1GHT is a lightweight PlayStation 3 homebrew SDK, provided as a temporary
way to compile user apps to run from the XMB using the open-source PS3
toolchains available.

Environment
———–

A GCC toolchain that supports the PowerPC 64bit architecture is required to
build PSL1GHT and its samples.
[This](http://www.bsc.es/plantillaH.php?cat_id=579) is the only toolchain
that I test with and can guarantee support for.
[ps3chain](http://github.com/HACKERCHANNEL/ps3chain) probably works just as
well, as should marcan’s [AsbestOS](http://git.marcansoft.com/?p=asbestos.git)
toolchain, and ooPo’s [ps3toolchain](http://github.com/ooPo/ps3toolchain).
Some toolchains will probably already use newlib, and may make the included
newlib unnecessary.

Status
——

At the moment, PSL1GHT has basic libc support, with stdout debugging, file
access, etc. It doesn’t have any way to access the screen/graphics. You can
call lv2 syscalls and do some fun stuff with that, but it doesn’t link to
PS3 dynamic libraries yet which is where all the exciting functionality
comes in. Also, a make_fself equivalent is still missing.

v1.0 features:

* Show TITLE ID above the cover
* Re-add disc_less mode in pl3 (but this time it works)
* Fix mem patching on Hermes (now it’s enabled ONLY on game launching)
* Merge from OpenBM 1.17.1 to fix disc-less mode without any discless menu option (PL3 only)

Download it here or better yet get it through the PS3 Homebrew Manager!

AsbestOS (a mineral, and meaning “inextinguishable” in Greek) is a bootloader to run PS3 Linux without OtherOS. It runs using the USB GameOS exploit (on PS3 version 3.41) from any compatible device, and any reprogrammable devices currently running the PS3 exploit can be used as long as they have enough free internal or external storage (40kB or so) to hold the loader. It is general enough that it should be useful to boot Linux given any other GameOS exploit in the future.

Currently, it only supports netbooting a kernel and no initrd (mostly due to bootmem limitations). This is enough to run a Linux system booting from an NFS share or from USB storage media. Almost everything that works under OtherOS is working. As additional perks of running as GameOS, you also get access to a seventh SPE (needs a kernel patch to enable) and there is clearly full access to the RSX including 3D support, although we still need to learn a few details about how that works to be able to use it.

AsbestOS is a fully independent open source payload and does not contain any code from the original PSJailbreak payload or derivatives. It is licensed under the GPLv2. Compiling it does not require any SDK tools, and it includes a script to build a fully vanilla GNU toolchain for the PS3.

If you’re interested, check out the git repository. The README file contains information on how to run AsbestOS and how to set up kernels. Currently, ports exist for software USB AVRs (Arduino etc.), iPods, and the reference implementation for devices with a TI OMAP3, but anything currently running PSGroove or similar can be adapted with only a few lines of new code.

For the impatient or lazy folks, here’s a kernel that you can use. You’ll probably want to change the kernel commandline options to set up your NFS root partition. This will eventually be handled by AsbestOS, but for now, open it up in a hex editor, search for HEXEDIT_THIS, and change the commandline to suit your needs (without changing the total length, of course). Do note that this kernel does not have built-in USB support, so it can only be used for NFS booting (the USB stuff is built as a module).

You can use this filesystem as a starting point. It’s a Gentoo stage3 updated to date and with PS3-specific tools installed. Keep in mind that there’s no Portage tree included, so be sure to either emerge –sync or NFS mount your server’s Portage tree (which is what I do). At the very minimum, you’ll want to edit the following files to configure your NFS and networking settings (or to specify USB device partitions, if you want to go that route – but you need to compile your own kernel then): /etc/fstab, /etc/hosts, /etc/resolv.conf, and quite likely a few others. This filesystem includes kernel modules for the above kernel. The root password is ‘ps3′.

Updates via psx-scene:
“marcan42 CONFIRMED IT WORKS ALSO WITH TI-84 PSJB (THE NEW ONE WHICH SUPPORT STAGE 2) BY HIS TWITTER ;)
And he Confirmed that AsbestOS work on the PS3 Slim, but possibly with a few minor bugs”

Two full-blown Assassin’s Creed games in a year might have seemed like a risky proposition to some, what with the possibility of the onset of franchise fatigue, but publisher Ubisoft says consumers are desperate to their hands on Ezio again, as well as the first AC multiplayer.

Ubi says next month’s PS3 and Xbox 360 release has become the most pre-ordered title in the company’s history , although it’s not sharing the numbers with us.

“Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood is being heralded by the press as a single and multiplayer experience unlike any other,” said Tony Key, Ubisoft’s senior VP of sales and marketing.

“As evidenced by the record number of pre-orders and the success of the multiplayer beta, consumers can’t wait to get their hands on Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, and we’re looking forward to delivering them an experience they’ll never forget.”

The Assassin’s Creed franchise has now sold 19 million units since debuting in 2007. Brotherhood will release on November 16 in the US and three days later in the UK.

The number of pre-orders beat out both the Tom Clancy and Prince of Persia franchise games. Assassin’s Creed is turning into one of the biggest franchises of this generation! Noting the improvement of the series from game 1 to 2, this 3rd installment (not counting Bloodlines on PSP) could be another GoTY contended especially with the added multiplayer.
